On May 20, the "Final of Nanqiang Students International Style Exhibition," hosted by the International College(IC) of Xiamen University(XMU), was successfully held in the Concert Hall of the Main Building No. 3 on the Zhangzhou Campus. Distinguished guests and leaders attending the event included Li Jun, Director of the Administration Committee of Zhangzhou Campus, XMU; Yu Hongbo, Dean of the International College; Shen Xinyi, Deputy Party Secretary of the Institute of Creativity and Innovation; Zhang Xiaoyun, Deputy Dean of IC; and Ma Xianghua, Deputy Party Secretary of IC. Faculty advisors of the finalists and groups of their supporters were also present to witness and cheer for the outstanding performances of the participants.



The final adopted a combined format of speech and talent performance, evaluating contestants' language proficiency, logical thinking, artistic literacy and stage presence in an all-round way. Centering on the theme Impression·My Xiamen University, speakers delivered heartfelt speeches rooted in the university's spirit and patriotism with diverse creative expressions. They narrated the century-long campus history and students' aspirations. Taking the red-brick Quanxian Building as a symbol, they paid tribute to Tan Kah Kee's dedication to education. They adopted innovative social media-style storytelling to review the university's international development over a century. Speeches recalled the feats of predecessors including Guo Dali, Wang Yanan and Sa Bendong. Contestants depicted the architectural charm of Song'en Building and the unique style of Tan Kah Kee architecture. They also drew a contrast between overseas Chinese ship tickets and modern students' flight tickets to trace the century-old pursuit of dreams. Combining personal growth, overseas study aspirations and the mission of XMU students, they interpreted the university motto "Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection", embodying the inheritance of Tan Kah Kee spirit, cross-cultural communication commitment and youthful aspirations embracing the world. Their sincere emotions and fluent delivery won warm applause from the audience.

The talent show segment was splendid and diverse. Contestants showcased their strengths through singing, flute, piano, painting, dancing, calligraphy and more, fully presenting the versatile and vigorous youthful spirit of XMU students. An audience interaction session enlivened the warm atmosphere. The Most Popular Contestant was selected via audience voting, greatly boosting engagement and interactivity of the event.


After all contestants finished their performances, the heartwarming flower-presenting session began. Participants stepped onto the stage to present flowers to their instructors who offered dedicated guidance and constant company, conveying sincere gratitude. Blooms, embraces and words of thanks filled the venue with profound teacher-student affection. While scores were tallied, Sun Jingyuan from the 2024 Marketing major delivered a soothing song. Her melodious voice echoed through the concert hall, bringing warmth and vitality to the scene. Following fierce competition and rigorous evaluation, the award winners of the final were officially announced.

Dean Yu Hongbo, Dean of IC, on behalf of the judging panel, delivered a concluding speech for the entire event. She spoke highly of the exhibition, praising the contestants for vividly showcasing the inheritance of Tan Kah Kee Spirit, the architectural beauty of XMU, its profound historical and cultural heritage, and the journey of its international development through multilingual, multi-perspective, and diverse forms. She noted that Impression · My Xiamen University embodies the unique warm stories between students and their alma mater, and encouraged students to share their personal bonds with XMU from their own perspectives. She expressed her hope that more students would actively tell XMU’s stories, continuously enhance cross-cultural communication skills, live up to the earnest expectations of General Secretary Xi Jinping for XMU students, and fully demonstrate the responsibility and commitment of XMUers.

Li Jun, Director of the Administration Committee of Zhangzhou Campus delivered a closing speech. He first congratulated all award winners and commended their remarkable international demeanor and cross-cultural communication competence. He also praised contestants who failed to reach the final, acknowledging their personal growth gained from the competition. He congratulated IC successfully hosting its debut style exhibition. Marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and also the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the XMU, the event serves as a heartfelt retrospect of the university's century-old spirit and a vivid interpretation of the contemporary value of Tan Kah Kee Spirit. He stressed that moral education is the essence of education, and cross-cultural communication capability is indispensable. The campus management committee will keep focusing on students' healthy growth and all-round development. It will encourage and support various departments to organize diverse and profound campus cultural activities to facilitate students' advancement.

The successful holding of the event has provided XMU students with an international platform for self-display, communication and learning. It also serves as a vivid practice for the college to fulfill the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and enrich campus cultural life. Bridged by languages and linked by cultures, the event inherits the university motto "Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection" and demonstrates fruitful achievements in international talent cultivation. It guides students to strengthen cultural confidence through cross-cultural expression and shoulder the missions of the times with youthful dedication.
